Audio | I was fortunate to collaborate with musician Jeff Burrington on this piece. Jeff and I have been friends for quite some time and when he mentioned he’d been approached by a friend to score their upcoming indie film I knew I had to secure him first for a project with me.
The brief was somewhat open-ended but I had a few specific beats in mind that I hoped he’d explore:
Place: Think urban noises like a bustling 80s Hong Kong marketplace, mah-jong games, tram rides, wooden abacuses and street food vendors sizzling in their woks and buzzing with electric energy. Flickering neon tubes add to the atmosphere.
FX & Mix: I envision an analogue warmth with an almost oppressive humid density. The use of disposable cameras and vintage Fuji/Kodak film might also inspire the direction.
1980s: This connection could be subtle, perhaps using a fitting synth sound that evokes the era.
